Why Models Should Eat

I don't know what inspired me to do this story more. Perhaps it was my attachment to all that is the media, or maybe it was my attachment for always thinking that I am never good or thin enough. One thing is for certain though, this is not healthy. Chris Farley was healthier than this.

Now, don't get me wrong. I am not saying that all supermodels are thinner than air. Tyra Banks is a perfect example of a beautiful, shapely model. In fact, I am a full believer that she should quit her day job and go back to modeling all together.

In this entry, I am going to discuss why models should eat. It may be a dumb subject to you, but what would be the difference in a unbelievably heavy person walking down the walkway? Especially when every single detail of a Model's bone is defined- it is not at all attractive to me, and I am a firm believer that curves are beautiful.

Why Models Should Eat...

  • Men Love Curvy Women

Most men I know do not fall in love with women that look like Skeletor, but more like women that resemble the shapely figure of Kim Kardashian. In fact, she is quite known for this and for having curves in all of the right places. And look that that, she eats cheeseburgers!

Studies show that men are into women who are especially unaware and vulnerable of their own bodies. "Women with curves make my junk bark. There is something so shockingly vulnerable, feminine, and grounded about a woman with back, hips, a lil’ paunch. Oh, and the beanpoles, with their delicate architecture. A tall woman with long legs, who is shyly unaware of her fairy tale reality, likewise turns me back into a sweating, erotically overcharged 15-year-old." John Devore isn't afraid to express his erotic dreams in his blog titled "Mind Of Man: The Types Of Women That Really Turn Us On".

  •  Bad Advertisement
This is the part that frustrates the shit out of me to no end. Using a model that is way too thin to advertise something is one thing.  However, getting rid of models who are already as thin as they are going to get is incredibly disturbing to me. Some agencies and companies including Raplh Lauren even went as far as digitally altering their models even skinnier in photos than they actually were, making them actually look unbelievable. The actual model was  5'10 and weighed in at 120 lbs. Still pretty thin for her height, I'd say. She eventually lost her job to Raplh Lauren when they felt that she was not skinny enough. This wrongful doing has put a dark cloud over the company who sells modern day clothing for young men and women all over America.

    • The Wrong Message
My mother told me many things when I was a child, but the one that always stuck out from the rest was the old saying "You are what you eat." Boy, was it true. Not too long after I went into puberty, I started to bloom...and bloom... and bloom eventually became a Burger King Whopper. The magazines I would pick up showed me that I wasn't supposed to look like I did at all. That there was something terribly wrong with me. My collar bones were not sticking out, and these girl's ribs were sticking right out of their shirts. Eventually, I ended up losing 60 lbs (the right way), except there was just one thing... my ribs still were not sticking out. It was such a discouraging moment for me, realizing no matter what I did, or how hard I worked- I will never look that thin. That is when I realized something. Women with noticeably projecting bones that stick out all over their body is not normal. Don't quote me wrong please. Many women are born thin and cannot help it. Women are made in all shapes and sizes, but being a walking skeleton is dangerously unhealthy and not normal.

Anyways, I continued to live my life healthy, and never looked at those women the same again. In fact, I actually feel remorse for them. They have a terrible sickness. It is one that they may never get over.

    • Food is delicious and it gives you energy
I can't stress this one enough. I mean, I advise that you don't eat so much that you turn into Rosanne; however eat good! Especially if the food LOOKS GOOD! There are many ways that a woman or young girl can eat on a regular basis and still stay in shape/lose weight. Also, food gives you energy! Some healthy foods that you can eat all day long and feel guilt-free about include: Fruits, Vegetables, Salads, Grilled Chicken and Fish, Unsalted Nuts and anything that is wheat.

Plus it is just plain old insane not to like food! What the hell gives?

    • Health Hazards

The question I've always pondered with Super Models has always come down to one thing. Given the majority that most of them do not eat, especially the super thin ones, where do they get all of the energy from? Walking down the run way, all of the photo shoots, and so on? The risk of these women running into a bad body failure of some sort is sky rocket high compared to anyone else. Not only is it physically draining on your body, but mentally as well. These women do not eat because they are in a world where you are expected to be paper thin, and the thinner you are, the better. These unreal expectations can turn a person's world upside down and cause them great mental and physical pain. I cannot see myself loving something that causes me so much grief and pain.

Well, that's it for this blog... How do you feel about ultra thin Super Models? Do you agree with this story or do you think that there is more to it? Express your feelings below and take the poll!

How do you feel about ultra thin Super Models?
Deeply Sickened. No one's bones should stick out in detail that much.
Fine. Models were meant to be thin.
Whatever. Women come in all shapes and sizes.

    1. I loved this post. I completely agree with everything you've said. I dabbled in a bit of 'modelling' (I wasn't taking it too seriously, and only got paid for some of the shoots I did) for fun for the first part of this year, but I eventually gave it up as, even though I didn't want to make a career out of it or anything, I still felt quite a dent in my self-esteem, as I'd see all these girls that were much taller and thinner than me. I'm 5ft 5 inches, and weigh 107lbs, so I'm pretty thin as it is, so I knew there was no way I would ever want to feel pressured into being unhealthy!

It's nice to see someone post in such detail about this. I'm a firm believer that if you feel beautiful as you are, then you should never let anyone try and change you!

    2. Thanks for the feedback and i'm really glad you agree with me! It's not that I was knocking just any ol' models. Usually women that are models are very unbelievably beautiful... i'm glad you see where I am coming from! And well said! :)

    3. Thank you for this post. As an Eating Disorder survivor I can attest to the horrible damage something as simple as an altered photo can cause. It's awful.

    4. I loved this post. I totally agree that the emphasis we put on women and girls to be unrealistically skinny is an unhealthy obsession. If we were meant to be that skinny, God wouldn't have given us hips and breasts and FOOD! There is a difference between being healthy and being unealistic, and I am glad to see an honest post about it. Stopping by from Comment Love Day. :)

    5. I definitely agree! I can't stand the companies who only allow models to work for them if they're anorexic. It sickens me how much they don't care about the health of the women at all. And also if I'm going to be buying clothing, I would like to see how it might look on me, not on someone who is basically the human equivalent of a clothes hanger, because she's that skinny.

And also, it's really sad when the photo editors decide that the girls still don't look skinny enough and Photoshop them skinnier, like in that Ralph Lauren photo. I could go into a whole separate rant on the things that photo editors do that piss me off, but I'll save it.

    6. This is a great post! I have been asked to lose weight for photoshoots or runway shows and I weigh just over 100 lbs. It's crazy how body image has evolved since the 1950s. I say, as long as people are happy and healthy, they shouldn't ever need to change! I am your newest follower and I hope you'll connect with me, as well!
